Police discrimination in America, a true fact of life for us living in the U.S.. We have all been victims one way or another. Due to their abuse of authority and hostile approach police officers are not so well received by the general public. Adding to this image is the recent rise in police brutality.
What motivated me to write this article is an incident that happened to me a few weeks ago involving a police officer. It was a rather shallow incident but one that shines greatly on his character. In short I was bringing a vehicle back to a friend who was on his way home from deployment in Iraq. On my way to FT.Bragg NC I was pulled over by a cop who said i was blowing smoke out of my muffler, in short I left with $300.00 in tickets. But here comes the good part, as he was pulling away I noticed that his brake lights were out. I couldn't believe my eyes, I just got two tickets costing me $300.00. Yet he's driving around town with no brake lights. To make it even better, I chased him down and pulled up right beside him and told him that his brake lights were gone. I also told him that "it's too easy to enforce the law and not uphold it". Needless to say, he gave me a grin and he said "well time for me to get out of here" and pulled off, leaving me with less respect for cops and $300.00 in the hole. What a jerk.
Cops need to develop a more conscience approach on how they deal with civilians. You get better results being courteous and showing people respect, rather than using arrogance and forgetting that we have rights. Matter of fact, police officers abuse civil rights on a daily basis, the worst part is they know it and we do nothing about it.
On a different level forget about civil rights violations and let's talk about physical abuse, and the use of excessive police force. Horrible stories about police officers beating on women and children are rampant over the Internet. For example I came across a story in where a child with autism was tased for being disruptive in school, or the kid who got arrested for passing gas in the classroom. Unbelievable.
